Kingsley Liu

Kingsley Liu is the Principal of The People's Solicitors, a law firm he co-founded in 2006 with the late Jeff Shaw QC, a former New South Wales Attorney-General and Supreme Court judge. As a third-generation Chinese-Australian, Kingsley's diverse career journey has taken him through power engineering and investment banking across Melbourne, Canada, and Asia, providing him with a broad range of experiences that inform his legal practice today. His firm stands out as a unique social enterprise, deeply committed to assisting disadvantaged and less privileged individuals across various legal fields, including commercial, criminal, and human rights law. Notably, from 2016 to 2018, The People's Solicitors represented survivors of the tragic 2010 Christmas Island boat disaster, leading a complex class action against the Australian Government for negligence. Kingsley's career is marked by a dedication to community interests, which is also evident in his tenure as National President of the Asian Australian Lawyers Association. In this role, he has worked to support the growing number of Asian Australian lawyers, fostering a diverse and inclusive legal profession. Before his legal career, Kingsley founded and managed several business ventures, including Global Leisure Pte Ltd, where he served as an engineering consultant and contractor for theme parks and leisure centres across Europe and Asia. He also played pivotal roles in investment management and securities, having been a director at Sun Hung Kai Securities Ltd and managing director at Auspac Securities Ltd. Kingsley's educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of New England, where he explored 'Chinese Walls' in his thesis. He further enhanced his expertise with a Master of Business Administration from National Chengchi University, specialising in finance and international business. His multifaceted background and commitment to justice continue to shape his approach to legal practice, focusing on innovative and compassionate solutions for his clients.
