John Kam holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Technology Sydney and a Master of Construction Project Management from the University of New South Wales. He embraces a principled negotiation approach, drawing on teachings from Harvard Law School’s Project on Negotiation. At David Kam and Co, John focuses on commercial law, construction projects, and succession matters. He regularly appears in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, guiding clients through complex legal issues by offering clear, practical advice grounded in ethical principles. His objective is to deliver value to clients while upholding strong values. John’s commercial practice includes supporting local and family-owned businesses with negotiating agreements, leases, and business transactions. Leveraging his background as a project manager, he provides clients with informed guidance on procurement strategies, contract selection, and risk management for construction and development projects. His experience spans notable projects such as the 6-Star Green Star Design rated Tyree Energy Technologies Building in Sydney and the Shangri-La Hotel in Nanjing. John advises on matters including defective design, incomplete works, project supervision, negligent certification, and disputes over contract suspension or termination. In succession law, John assists individuals and families with estate planning, wills, powers of attorney, enduring guardianship, and managing probate and administration under the New South Wales Supreme Court. He works closely with financial and tax advisors to create comprehensive plans that ensure the smooth transfer of wealth and protection against unforeseen changes. John also serves as a notary public in Sydney for David Kam and Co Solicitors. Outside of his legal practice, John enjoys spending time outdoors and practising meditation.
