About Andrew
Andrew Deards is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution practice, bringing extensive litigation experience developed over the course of his career. He has appeared in or instructed counsel in a wide range of courts across New South Wales, including the Local Court, District Court, Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Court of Criminal Appeal, Coroner’s Court, and the Land and Environment Court. Before joining the firm, Andrew gained valuable experience working with the Office of the General Counsel at the NSW Police Force and the NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. This background in criminal law and policing provides him with a deep understanding of the legal and corporate risks his clients face, enabling him to craft strategic approaches to litigation efficiently and effectively. Andrew’s expertise covers prosecuting offences under the Heavy Vehicle National Law and handling appeals related to NSW Road Transport legislation. He is experienced in intentional torts including false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, assault and battery, misfeasance in public office, and trespass to land and goods. He also advises on matters involving inquests and public inquiries, such as coronial inquests, as well as civil applications under legislation including the Restricted Premises Act, the Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act, and the Crimes (Serious Crime Prevention Orders) Act 2016. Andrew’s combination of practical litigation skills and a strong understanding of government and regulatory environments makes him a trusted advisor for clients navigating complex dispute resolution matters.
